The project and the disorder (A.D.H.D)
The Mental Health project was for us to study a unique illnesses that was given just to them. Each person or partners were given their own illnesses that mostly affected people from ages 13 - 25. There were many different parts to this project that tied into our school subjects. For example, The art part of this project was to develop a art therapy for the assigned illnesses. Art therapy is where you are given a art task that is made towards to just helping or fixing a sertern illness. Mine illness ADHD, so what I did was that I Made an art assignment where clients were to make a fancy looking daily schedule that would help them organise their daily tasks and hopefully get them to stop getting distracted. So during exhibition people who were attending it were invited to actually do the art therapy that the student developed. Even when they did not have the illness themself, they still got to experience what it's like to have that illness. For the humanities part what we did is we first read a book. The book was called “All the Bright Places” and it was about two high school students who are going through severe depression. After we read the book when then made our own story where the main character has the illness we were given (So my main character has ADHD). As a general part of this project we made a case studies report on our illnesses. This case study included: the causes of the illness, the history of the illness, treatment options, and statistics and charts.
What I learned
There were many things I learned about my illness (ADHD) from this project. I myself have ADHD so when I learned many new facts about it was very surprised that I have not known them before. Like where there are two different branches of ADHD. First there is ADHD, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is where the subject is calm but commonly gets off task. The other branch is ADD, Attention Deficit Disorder. This is in a way the opposite of ADHD but it's still similar. ADD is where the subject does random actions without thought. The person is very hyper and awake unlike ADHD but it's still similar in the fact where both types get distracted easily. Before this I thought it was only ADHD. Another thing I learned wasn't about ADHD but something I learned about all illnesses. When i was reading “All the Bright Places” I discovered that just because a person has a illness and there is a fix for it does it mean that they are conformed to get help. The world around them can distractedly affect the outcome of the illness. If the world around them is really bad and no one is giving them help then it's going to be very hard to cure the person. But if the world around them is good and he/she is getting good help then the chances of getting fixed are higher.
A reflection of exhibition
I think the exhibition went good but not as good as I wanted it to go. The parts I wish went better were the amount of people that showed up to the exhibition and came to my both to do my art therapy. It was during the school day so many people both in school and outside of school could not attend. And for the ones who did they did not have much time to explore it because it was only a few hours. Bring this number down to the amount of people that actually attended my booth and you only got around five people. But for the few people who did actually show up to my booth They did have a good time, they were very interested in ADHD and were very surprised about facts that I was also surprised about too. So this project was good because the actual creation of the art therapy was fun but I felt let down at exhibition.
