#1 Quentin Tarantino
For this art piece what the project was to take any artist and to either draw a portrait of the artist him/herself or to recreate one of his/hers most famous art pieces. We had two ways of doing this. We could either take an picture from the internet and trace the outline of it on a projector or we could draw it by hand. When I first got this assignment I thought the only artist I could do were the ones that make paintings. I had a lot of trouble finding a artist that would be good to draw. But then I discovered that the artist doesn't have to be a painter but he/she could be any type of artist. He/she could be artist for: movies, music, writing, or 3D art. When I learned this the first person I thought up was Quentin Tarantino, he’s a movie director and a very good one. Many people including me believe that all his movies are very artistic. Since the only things he has made were movies the only thing I can draw of him is a portrait of him. I found a very good picture of him on the internet. In the picture he is holding a very small and old camera, he is looking very serious and dark, just like his movies. The picture was allready in black and white so all I did in photoshop was compress the layers and colors into 5 layers and 5 shades of grey. I used the short throw projector in the makerspace to trace the outline and created 5 shades of grey that matched with the edited picture and painted it in.
#2 Ned Kelly head armor
This project was a tie into our history project. The history project was where each group of 4-5 people were given a different country to research about. We were to research the same time period but for just our country. How art ties into this is where we were to to find a significant person or art piece from our country. The person I chose was Ned Kelly, he is from australia and all the events he caused happened in australia. He was a rebel that fought against the police. His final stand was when he dressed up in homemade armor and had a major shootout. What my art piece was a remake of the headpiece of his amor. I made it out of scrap sheet metal bent into a C shape and held it together with a two half pieces separated to make a slot to see out of. It was all held together by nuts and bolts. After that was done I then painted a few really old australian drawings that at the time represented the people. And as a final touch i drilled a hole in the back and added red paint to make it look like he was shot in the back of the head.
#3 Griff cover art
This final piece is my cover art for my sketch book. It was one of the first assignments I got for art. It was supposed to as simple as possible but still showing my name. How i made is is by taking stickers that were in the shape of letters. I found all the letters to GRIFF except for the R. Someone had already had used it so I had to make my own. I found a L sticker and what i did with is was take off the bottom part of the L and move it up to the top of it to make a lowercase r. I could not just flip the L on its back because the sticky side I only on one side and if i did that the sticky side would be facing up. Once the sisters were in place I made a dark navy blue and got one of the bigger paint brushes. What I did with is was get as much paint on it as possible and do a single stroke from above the top the below the bottom. This made so that you can't find the start or finish of the stroke. I did this across the page a few more times but overlapped so you can't find the seams between the strokes. Once the paint dried I carefully removed the stickers. But the stickers were too powerful for the paper I did this on so it ripped off a layer of paper. This in the end was good because it gave GRIFF a ruff look compared to the smooth blue paint.
